Windows Picture and Fax Viewer & image.gif attachment

I received an email (OE6) with image00X.gif attachments.
When I tried to open them with subject viewer (WP&FV) I
got a vsry small colored square (about 0.25 x 0.25 inches)
in the center of the Window. I tried to use all tools at
the bottom of the screen, but nothing worked. email was
sent using MS Outlook and received with OE6 Outlook
Express. The reason for the last sentence is I found from
MS KB that Word attachments sent from MS Outlook to OE6
Outlook Express often CANNOT be read with WinXP Word 2002.
Could that be THE problem with image.gif attachments??
Specific suggestions, please.

An attachment that cannot be read will not open.
Sounds like the problem is with the attachment.
Ask the sender to resend the file.
