Windows Photo Gallery crashes

My old computer had two graphics programs that I am using on my new computer
with Vista. They are ThumbsPlus and Irfanview. Since they have special
features that I use a great deal I feel comfortable with them.
When I started Vista, I used the transfer cable and everything worked really
well. I am happy about that and did the adding of the programs as needed.
Windows Photo Gallery is a program that I use more than the other two I
added now, but still use them for certain features.
This past week, in order to compact some picture files, I transferred
several folders into one larger file. Now when I try to open Windows Photo
Gallery, I get the message that a certain file (now in a large folder) needs
to be opened and asks what to do with the file. When I click "remove the
file" the program crashes. There is also a "find the file" and that causes
the same crash, and "cancel" also crashes.
This program does not show up PROGRAMS -Uninstall a program or Change
startup programs, so I cannot find a way to uninstall and try reinstalling
the program.
What can I do to fix this problem other than a total restore?
Thanks

Must admit I don't have any experience with Photo Gallery... that said...
are those the only options you get when you open Photo Gallery? I must
assume PG scans your Pictures folder in your <name> folder. I would try
moving all photos from the Picture folder to some other folder and try
opening PG. What type of file are you having this problem with? Might try
moving that one file... and if that doesn't work, try moving them all...

Yeah, PG is not listed in the Turn Windows Features On/Off dialog box, so I
guess there's no easy way to uninstall/reinstall it...
