Windows Photo Gallery bluescreen with XP video drivers

I need to run some ancient DOS applications in full-screen mode, so I took
Microsoft's advice at this address:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;926657

and installed the current XP drivers for my Nvidia card.

Now full-screen DOS applications work perfectly, but if I use Windows Photo
Gallery to view any JPG (or some other) files, Vista crashes with a blue
screen and restarts.

I can avoid this by using other applications (such as IrfanView) to view JPG
files, but this is only a bad workaround. Is there any hope of getting
Windows Photo Gallery to work correctly with XP video drivers?

Well, some Google searching suggests that this problem occurs with many
versions of the drivers, and I now see that it happens every time I open
Windows Media Player, so I'll just have to hope that Nvidia fixes it in
future versions.
