WIndows (NEW) Update no longer works

My Update Windows tool used to work perfect.
Yesterday I allowed the NEW Update software to be installed
and now it can not scan my PC to check for the necessary
updates.
I get the following error:

[Error number: 0x8024402C]
Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display
the requested page.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

do you a firewall installed? is that stopping download? Can you verify the
error meesages in windows update log file at
c:\windows\windows update.log

Yes I do have a firewall installed, however, it has never
been a problem until this recent Update software change.

My "windowsupdate.log" has error messages like:
2004-08-23 19:32:10-0400 820 420 Send failed with hr =
80072ee7.
2004-08-23 19:32:10-0400 820 420 SendRequest failed with
hr = 80072ee7. Proxy List used: <(null)> Bypass List
used : <(null)>

Having to disable a firewall, to get updates, can't be
good...can it???

I went to the link you suggested, but, other than
identifying the kind of error...it did not offer any
suggestions on how to correct the problem.

It claims that errors 0x800C000B and 0x80072EE2 have to
do with the connection to this Internet site took longer
than the allotted time.

When I disabled my ZoneAlarm, the problem went away,
however, I never had a proble before this newest UPDATE
version...

I really don't like lowering my ZoneAlarm. I camped onto
my network with a monitor once and within a half hour
(30minutes!!! ) I had 57 probes.

I wished they didn't try to fix it (UPDATE) when it
wasn't broken...it used to work so well.
