Windows misplaced photo

Once again, Windows plucked one of my digital camera photos from MY PICTURES
folder and arbitraily placed it in the Desktop Wallpaper list. How can I
retrieve it and put it back in MY PICTURES folder so I can work on it?
Please help. Thank you. I have Windows XP Home, SP2.

==================================
The pictures that show up under display
properties / desktop are located in the
following folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\user name\My Documents\My Pictures
C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper
C:\Windows\Resources\Themes

By default, images in your My Pictures folder
are available in your Desktop Background
list but the files have not been physically moved
from where you saved them.

Is it possible that you accidentally dropped the
image into one of your My Pictures sub-folders?

Try doing a search for the image.

Open your My Pictures folder...

Click the "Search" button on your toolbar...

Select...All Files and Folders...

Enter the exact file name if you know it...
and if not...enter the extension... jpg.
