For about 4 months now window messinger has been popping
up saying I have to download or I can not continue. I
push no and am still able to continue. I would like to
stop this pop up complestely. I notified aol and even
though I am already on a no pop up request, this pop up
keeps showing. Also, the website for no popups says it
cannot be found. They told me to contact my compac
company. I have windows xp home version. Compac could
not help me because mu pc is over 1 year old, they said.
Can you PLEASE help me get rid of this pop up which I
have been informed can damage my computor if I was to
download it. I had started downloading it, but canceled
the download, thank goodness. I was about half way
through at that time. What can I do to get rid of this
pop up? Your help will be so greatly appreciated.

Greetings Darlene,

Firstly, remove your saved Passport login in Windows XP, so it can't automatically sign you
in to the service (you can readd this back in the future if you like), click the Start
Button, then click the Control Panel. Then, click User Accounts in the Control Panel. Select
your account name, and then on the left side of the screen, under Related Tasks, click
'Manage my Network Passwords'. In the window that opens, click the Passport.Net\* (Passport)
entry and click 'Remove'.

If the window is still open with the upgrade question, say No, it should now stop trying.

Then open up Windows Messenger (click Start, then click Run, type "msmsgs" and click OK),
choose the Tools menu, then Options, then Preferences tab, uncheck 'Run this Program when
Windows starts' and click OK. Then right-click on its icon in the notification area/system
tray (by the clock) and click Exit.

It shouldn't bother you again.
