Hi all --
I'm running Windows XP home edition. I have MSN Messenger 6.0 installed as
well as the XP-included Windows Messenger 4.7.
I have tried all of the steps for disabling Windows Messenger 4.7, but
whenever I boot up my computer, msmsgs.exe is always in the processes,
taking up alot of memory. Further, I have sometimes been signed into
Messenger without having known it, and have been suprised when people on my
contact list have messeged me and I had no idea I was actually online (MSN
Messenger 6 was NOT running at the time). Even if I manually end its
process, it still comes back within minutes.
Neither programs are set to connect automatically or run in the background.
I have tried the registry edits to disable Windows Messenger, and shut off
'automatically log onto Messenger' in both Outlook (which I use for e-mail)
and Outlook Express (which I use for news).
Is it normal for msmsgs.exe to be running even when I've disabled Windows
Messenger? If not, how do I get it to stop running at startup? I can't
think of anything else to try.
Thanks in advance,
Anthony
