WINDOWS MESSENGER WHAT IS IT FOR?

I have been using xp windows since nov 2001 and although I have noticed
windows messenger I do not seem to have had any occassion to use it.
I have a 'passport' so presumably I can use messenger but could some one
offer suggestions regarding its use. I do not want to use 'hotmail'(I use
outlook express) neither do I want 'instant messaging, so is there anything
else.

if you dont use instant messaging about the only benefit would be that if
you have done the latest service pack two windows will take you to outlook
express by default ;ie; you could check your e-mail with it.. there are other
things its useful for. check out article see if any is usefull to you
