Messenger logging in on Outlook Express

I'm having trouble w/ Windows Messenger logging in by itself while I'm using
Outlook Express. I have the settings in Outlook's options menu so that
Messenger doesn't log in automatically...but it's doing it
anyway...sometimes. It's really frustrating because I like to leave my
email browser open in case new mail arrives but then I end up getting
instant messages from friends when I don't want to. I'm beginning to think
that my only option is to remove Messenger all together but I hate to do
that because I do use it. Is there anything else to do that I haven't
tried? I see no option in Messenger itself to halt the problem. Any ideas
are greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Greetings,

That setting actually only works in certain circumstances. There's actually another hidden
setting that stops Messenger integrating with Outlook Express in all circumstances.

To use it, close Outlook Express then download and run this .reg file:

Then restart Outlook Express and Messenger will no longer be integrated, period.
