Windows Messenger pest

I do not have Windows Messenger enabled, it is not in my add\remove & no
check mark beside it on the General tab in Outlook. I don't like this
program period. But everytime I start my computer, I get a little box that
says, ""A newer versions is available & I must install"". Gives me the
option of yes & no. I keep clicking NO, but it comes up every time I
re-boot. Any suggestions from you great "guys" is appreciated. Thanks in
advance

To delete Messenger, try this from Johathan Kay:
Close down Messenger (right click the messenger icon in the notification
area/system tray and click close). Then click the start button, then
click Run and type in (copy-paste if you like):
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Then click OK. Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed

BTW: Do not confuse MSN Messenger with Windows Messenger. MSN Messenger
is an add-on IM client and Windows Messenger is a Windows Service which
allows Windows POP-UPs. Unfortunately, spammers have gotten access the
Windows Messenger.

YEAH!!!! It's gone, thank you for that site. I could not shut Messenger down
'cause I never had the darn thing running. I went to the site you suggested
& typed in

Type: RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
%windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove and press OK.

Rebooted my machine & so far, no reminder. I had a feeling this was running
in the background buy just couldn't find how to uninstall when it is not in
add\remove or on my taskbar. Thanks bunches

No not correct. Don't confuse the three different messengers.

MSN Messenger - instant messaging program, has to be downloaded and
installed.

Windows Messnger - instant messaging program, in windows xp by default.

Messenger Service - a service that allows net send commands and network pop
ups, included in winNT and above by default.

Windows Messenger, Msn Messenger, and the Messenger service are *three*
different things. Do not get them confused when talking about these three
separate programs all with messenger in their name.
