Please, please tell me how to remove or disable this program. I cannot stand
this annoyance.

Specifically, what is the problem with WMP?

There are options for media files to be handled by other utilities.
Click START button|ALL PROGRAMS|DEFAULT PROGRAMS. Also see HELP &
SUPPORT for that topic.

The free Media Player Classic open source player might be an appealing
alternative. QuickTime Alternative, and REAL Alternative, which
eliminate the need for those commercial players, often package MPC.
