My ISP does not carry "microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player" (among
many others). Can I use Free Agent to log onto "msnews.microsoft.com"?
If so, how?

Thanks...Glenn

Glenn,
The group is available by setting up an account that accesses the
Microsoft server:

msnews.microsoft.com

*THAT* server is what carries the group. My ISP's newsfeed doesn't carry
the group either.

I use another news reader... but the general idea is to make a news account
with msnews.microsoft.com as the news server, then the list with
available microsoft groups will download (they are about 50 I think?)

microsoft.public.multimedia.windows.mediaplayer is the English group.

Thanks...Glenn

It's been awhile since I've used Free Agent but at the time it didn't
support multiple news servers (that may have changed). I found that if I
installed a 2nd copy in a different folder, I could access a 2nd server.
This could get cumbersome.

Good luck,

Dave

I believe you are right, only one news server. What I did is install
it twice on the same drive, I can only run one at a time though. A bit
cumberson but not overly so. I belonged to the Free Agent ng a while
back and it was said that the then upcoming Professional version would
handle muliple groups. don't know it it came to pass.

The latest Agent release handles multiple news servers but is OT for
this newsgroup.

I used to subscribe, years ago, and yeah, it does look pretty poor now.
I did recognize 1 name; his website is:

http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html

He's a MS employee and his website looks pretty helpful.

Good luck,

Dave
