windows media player

I copied an mpeg file to my site. Linked to the file. When I preview it the
movie plays fine in media player, but when I go online the media player pops
and it says "connecting". I let it run for a while but nothing happens. Any
ideas?

Did you publish the file to the live site?

To use files in your web, you need to import them into your current open web before you link to
them, etc.

Yes, I published it to the site. I am not sure I understand your final
statement. I always copy and paste onto my hard drive and then publish or
copy from there to the live site. I tried importing the file but it ends up
on my hard drive first, just as if I was copying and pasting. Not sure I
understand why it is important to have the object of the link on the live
site prior to linking. I have never done this before.

You must always create or import all content to be used in your web, within the current open FP web
/ site. If you are working on your local (PC) version, then you must import or create within this
open FP web / site, if your live/remote site, then you would import or create within it. Import can
be accomplished by either using the File Menu | Import command or by drag-n-drop into the current
open FP web / site, not by copy and paste, unless pasting between open FP webs.

With FP2003, your local web, is whatever web / site you open first and the remote is the one you
will be publishing to.
