Windows Media player not support to *.DAT files in Windows 2000 Prof

Sir,
I have Windows 2000 Professional operating system.My
problem is ,I am not able to play *.DAT files in Windows
Media Player 7 . I also upgrade W.M.Player to 9 ver.but
the problem is same.
Pl provide the solution.

DAT isn't a media file type. It's a generic catch all file type that is
used for various junk. If this *is* a media file, it's likely either MPEG1
or MPEG2. What's the error you encounter in what version of WMP? Where did
this file come from? If it's MPEG2, you'd need an MPEG2 decoder...
