Windows Media Player Not Opening

When I clicked on a file that is played through Windows Media Player, nothing
happens. The blue bar on top of the window just turns a paler blue like
clicking outside of it) and that's all. There's a quick show of the hourglass
besides the mouse and that's it. Please help. I've waited for a long time and
still nothing's happening.
 
Are you inside media player clicking on the files, or are you clicking a
file somewhere else and waiting for media player to open?
If you are inside media player, make sure the listed file is still in the
location it was in when media player found or last played it. Maybe the file
has been moved. If you are outside media player, what is the file extension
you are trying to play? Does this happen with all media files?
