Hi guys

First some background - I have Windows XP Pro and I think Windows Media Player 8? Up until i logged on this morning everything has been working alright. However... Media player now refuses to start. There is no error message, just a spinning hourglass and then a 'ding' sound. I have checked in the services in Task Manager and there is no mention of media player and everything looks OK, although there are a few there that I not sure of:
DKService.exe
csrss.exe
rmctrl.exe
smss.exe
I don't want to turn these off unless I know what they do.

I have also run a full virus check with the latest signatures installed.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated

Hi!

DKService.exe=It is associated with Diskeeper.

csrss.exe=
Client/Server Runtime Server Subsystem
Description: The Windows Client Server Runtime Subsystem
handles Windows and Graphics Functions for all Subsystems

rmctrl.exe=Remote Control background application for
PowerDVD version 4 and above. This background task
enables you to use a remote control with your DVD drive
if your drive came with one.

smss.exe=The Session Manager Subsystem initializes system
environment variables, MS-DOS devices names such as LPT1
and COM1, loads the kernel for the Win32 subsystem, and
starts the Windows Logon Process

Hope it helps.
