OneStat.com, today reported that Microsoft's Windows operating system has
a global usage share of 97.46 percent. Microsoft's Windows still
dominates the global operating system market. The global usage share of
for Apple's Macintosh operating system is 1.43 percent and is the second
most popular operating system in the world. The three most popular
operating systems according to OneStat are: 1. Windows 97.46%, 2.
Macintosh 1.43%, 3. Linux 0.26%. All numbers are an average of the last 2
months. The other big statistics company, StatMarket, placed (in June
2002) Microsoft at around 95%, MacOS at 2.4% and Linux around 0.35%.

Tell me this isn't a virtual M$ monopoly!

Good for them,if someone can come up with a better solution do it,unti
that happens one has to agree microsoft has great software.And once yo
pay the small amount for xp,microsoft gives the user quite a range of areas on
can build up thier own self knowlege and add toward current software w/o costs
Show me where ford,or GM has ever given anything away free of charge...

as a complete idiot when it comes to these stupid things that cost large amounts of money,computers . if it wasn,t for the initutive shown by gates bloke and freinds a would not be sitting in england at 12.15 am trying to sort out why my stiupid computer dont work very good. i would have thrown it at someone by now . so they may have saved a life. good luck with writing something better........rich.....

Private monopolies (such as Micros~1) are good. The archetype monopoly,
Standard Oil, drove down the cost of kerosene from $3.00/gal to about 5
cents in less than three years! This opened up lighting to the world (at the
cost of crushing the whale oil business).

In the case of Micros~1, they have a HUGE competitor: themselves. Their
product is a non-consumable and, as such, Micros~1 must continually create a
better product or their revenue stream stops.

Public monopolies are the bad ones.
