Windows management Instrumentation problems

When in system information I get this:
A network error occurred in connecting to Windows Management Instrumentation. Ensure that your network connection is functioning properly. Have tried to do a net diagnostic and recieved unable to connect to WMI service,"\root\cimv2".
I am log in as administrator, have tried fixes listed on date 12/14/2003. All other systems working properly? Now can anyone out there give a suggestion"besides reloading XP Home".

P.S. have good knowledge base on computers but there is probably something simple I am forgetting.

.
Make sure that it is enabled in admin tools services.WMI
is dependant on rpc remote proceedure call and event log
so these must be enables as well
For something simple,Do you have your fiewall blocking
svchost.exe?(WMI=svchost.exe)

Have tried what anonymous has suggested, no luck. I have no firewall, but do have a DI-604 router.
