Windows Mail under Vista OS

On an older machine running XP and Outlook Express, when I wanted to send an
email to George, I just brought up new mail and typed "G". All the "G"
entries in my contacts would come up. Under Windows Mail, I only get the
"Gs" that I recently sent email to (and don't know how it determines what is
recent and what isn't). At any rate I would like to have all the "Gs" pop up
again, if that is possible. Am I doing something wrong or is this a feature
that wasn't carried over?

Thank you in advance.

You did not do anything wrong.
Windows Mail only remember the LAST 29 names you used.
Any names beyond the 29th will have to be brought up via TO button.

That is known as the auto-complete feature.
Windows Mail does not auto-complete from your contacts.
It uses a separate list of the last 29 recipients you've sent mail to.

The auto-complete feature works perfectly in the replacement
program, Windows Live Mail, which uses the standard contacts list
for auto-completion.
You are encouraged to upgrade to the newer WLM program:
