windows mail setup

Melasond

I have a new computer and am trying to set up my e-mail account using windows
mail. I have successfully set up my husband's account on this same computer,
but when I complete the exact same steps for my own account, I get the
following message:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.bellsouth.net',
Server: 'mail.bellsouth.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

My husband never gets this message, and I have tried everything including a
call to the provider. Nothing has worked.
Please help!

Is your husband's account set up on a Windows user name different than yours?
Especially with antivirus problems, one user can get corrupted while the other
user is fine. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
from overly intrusive antivirus programs:
