Windows mail - send function

Im new to vista and have a problem with my send / receive,
I have norton protection centre.
I think i have set up my pop server correctly.
firstly i can receive emails fine but not send
I have ticked the My server requires authentication box. I have tried
checking and un checking the log on using secure password authentication box.
but it is stillnot working.
when i click send and receive the a box pops up
"Windows Security" appears in the top left of the box,
it then says
Logon to mail.btinternet.com (my pop server)
Please verify that both theusername and passowrd are correct for your mail
server.

it wont accept my username and password - once ive typed it in the box just
pops up again,,

if i click cancel then it skips the sending and goes straight to the
receiving stage - which it does fine.

ive also entered the username and password in the mailbox settings section
and i think that is where the ''receive'' is picking them up from.

please help

Hi William,

I am new to vista also and have no idea about computers... I have exactly
the same problem as you... I have been on the computer and helpline all day
and can't find a solution. I'm so confused. I called VirginMedia and they
ran through the account setttings with me and confirmed everything is ok. I
am receiving mail fine, just can't send anything.

I'm desperate to get it fixed as I have a sister in South America just now
and I really need to get in touch with her.

Please let me know if you work it out...

Thanks,
Gemma.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection. Beside that,
McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and need to be
uninstalled.

The short answer to your question is yes, Norton is compatible
with Outlook, but only if you disable Norton's email scanning.

On the other hand, there is no downside to immediately replacing
Norton with a more compatible antivirus, such as the free Avast:

I replied to this issue three hours ago in the thread named
"Mail Send function not working". Not sure why there are two
separate threads about this issue.

I do not allow Norton or McAfee on any machines I am responsible for or work
on.
For home users I am installing Avast and for corporate users NOD32.

Remove the account, restart the machine and reinstall the account.
