Windows Mail Recovering Lost Email

G

Gil

Most frustrating. After using Win Mail for about 10 mins, it begins to
search for lost email and will add all the folders I use under a folder
called "Recovered Lost Email"
Each folder is empty, but is a duplicate of the folders in my Inbox.

This will repeat every time I close WinMail and then reopen it later in the
day. Within two or three days, I will have about 30 "recovered lost email
folders" all with empty duplicates of the folders in my Inbox. The
folders are give names like this ... 09-2008-0009 00-01-00

Can anyone help PLEASE

Anyone's help really appreciated. I can't logon. Just set up-or so I
thought-Microsoft mail. Logon to pop.mail.yahoo.com security screen pops up
and says either user ID or password is invalid. Any suggestions.

Hi Mark

You need to click on TOOLS ... ACCOUNTS .... then add you Yahoo
email address ie; (e-mail address removed)

Then in the Incoming Mail you need to add plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com
and in Outgoing Mail box you need to add plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
and your Yahoo User Name and Password.

Hopefully this will solve the problem.

Thanks for responding, Gil!!! Just want to get this f'ing program up and
running so I can get on with life. You lost me a bit.
In Mail, Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties Under Server, I don't have a
plus for either ingoing or outgoing mail. Is this where I am changing,
reformatting, creating the User ID & Password???
Thanks for the help!!!!

Although anyone can reply here, it is best to limit your advice taking
to the regular responders.

Right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without that complete error message.

Gary, I appreciate the warning. I've seen your name mentioned multiple times
in posts, so I hope you know what you are doing.
Anyway, in terms of cutting and pasting the error message:The message could
not be sent. The authentication setting might not be correct for your
outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this problem, go to Help,
search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the "I'm having problems
sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining the proper server
settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was 'yahoo.com'. Subject 'Re: Welcome to Windows
Mail', Account: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Server: 'smtp.mail.yahoo.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '530 authentication required - for help go
to http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/pop/pop-11.html', Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 530, Error Number: 0x800CCC78
I obviously screwed something up while trying to install it. Any help is
appreciated, Gary. P.S. this is goofy but worth mentioning. I can "reply".
A dialog box appears. I can't create a new thread via a question. when I
attempt to, I hear a noise but no dialog box shows up.

it as I have no clue what Live Mail is. Thanks for the help.

Gary,
II'm going to try to catch up with you in the next few days as I can't
access a computer while I'm working and I gotta run. I was "assuming" the
error had to do with me not correctly making the Mail - Yahoo "connection"
for a better word or worse I'm an idiot who screwed up the Logon process.
Do you know how to "reset" the Logon i.e. User name and Password. I'd like
to give that a shot before I go running off to annother program that might
not work properly either.
THANKS!!

Trust me, I've been working support for Windows Mail for the past 19
months. Repeated generation of "Recovered" folders is only caused
by a corrupted message store. There is a method for resetting the
Windows Mail message store, but it is very labor intensive and fraught
with possibilities of something going wrong. Upgrading to Windows
Live Mail is a no-brainer by comparison.
