Windows Mail - Multiple accounts - receiving mail & POP3 problem

Hi,

Briefly...

We have Vista Ultimate installed and we are using Windows Mail. I have set
up two (2) separate personal accounts for my wife and I. Both are from the
same ISP. All SMTP and POP3 server settings were correctly added. No mistakes
were made.

We are sharing the same physical computer and are using one "family" profile
to avoid profile confusion. Internet connection is working smoothly so I
would rule that out straight away.

My own personal email account can connect with the mail server &
send/receive email as it should.

My wife's, however, cannot and provides us with the following error.

Account: 'mail.inet.fi (1)', Server: 'mail.inet.fi', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR [AUTH] invalid user or password', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

From the above, it would depict that there's an authorization problem? Am I
correct in that assumption? What if the credentials I have already used for
her account are, in fact, ok? What can I actually do then? SSL is not needed
with our ISP. Remember, my own account from the same ISP works!?!?!

We are using Computer Associates security suite (without the anti-spam)
which contains Anti-virus, firewall, and spyware program. I have already
followed some common advice to disable the email scanning settings from the
anti-virus. I have re-created the email accounts after doing that and am
still encountering the same problem --> My account connects and receives
email and my wife's does not.

My question is twofold really...

1. Does anyone have (or has had) similar problems?
2. Does anyone have a possible solution for this issue?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can assist with this frustrating problem!

Warm regards from Finland!

YES!! I have a very similar problem when using 2 accounts, especially with
mail for my wife and I. If she is logged in and using the computer, she can
send and recieve mail w/out difficulty, but when she is logged off and I am
on the system, all her mail comes to my inbox..If no one is logged in, all
mail comes to my in-box, despite checking all pop-server and smtp server info
was correctly listed for each of us.. Very frustrating, also spell checker
will not work in windows mail, get some kind of error about "cannot find
english dictionary..or something similar..

My reaction is that your problem could be the Account Name not the
password. Check the instructions on the web site of your internet
service provider regarding sub-accounts. The Account Name in the
error report looks to be a system generated name to avoid creating
two identical file names.

Hope this helps.

Wow, you have already covered all the suggestions I would have
had you try. Congrats on a very thorough write-up.
It's a real mystery why the mail server is not accepting your wife's
credentials. I presume your provider (Inet.fi) also has web mail
access, and you have tried your wife's credentials through the
web mail access?

The next test would be a temporary trial of an alternate email
program, such as Thunderbird. If it succeeds, this would
narrow the difficulty down to WinMail itself.

Those are entirely different problems. Start your own thread.

This is a tough one. I assume your checking of settings has included
verifying that both are using the same ports.

How do you connect to the Internet? Dial-up?

Try removing your wife's mail account, close and reopen Winmail, and then
try adding it back again. If it still has the problem, try unchecking the
remember password box and submit the password manually and see if that
works.
