downloading email from pop3 suddenly broken

Hi there i hope someone can help me.

I have been using windows mail with my current ISP for a few years with no
issues.
Suddenly when I try and replicate I get the following message:

Account: 'pop3.slingshot.co.nz', Server: 'pop3.slingshot.co.nz', Protocol:
POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

I have tried turning off my anti virus (avast)
I have created new accounts
I have turned off my firewall
I have deleted all new emails on my web mail account
I have spoken to my ISP

I am now alomost ready to go postal. Any more suggestions?

PS Just found that a test email I sent from Hotmail came through OK, but one
from my work email again caused the above error.

Error 0x800CCC19 is a time-out, which typically is cause by
interference from an antivirus program.
Your Avast! antivirus was probably installed with its default install option,
which installs an email scanning module. Just disabling its email scanning
is not a sufficient remedy. Uninstall Avast!, then reinstall, but select 'custom'
install, which then allows you to unselect installing its troublesome email
scanning module.

Try putting mail. in front instead of pop3.

Thanks for your advice. I had already tried stopping Avast, but not re
install.
B4 I did that I shut off my router and did a small change to wireless
network password. On reboot of router started getting email agin. Go figure.

Cheers

Interference from an antivirus tends to be intermittent, so it was
probably a coincidence that the problem went away after
rebooting the router. I'm sure the same problem will return.
