receiving email messages

Psycho

Hi there I hope someone can help.
I have been using Windows Mail for several years with my current ISP and
experienced no problems.
I have just been away for 10 ten days and since I have come back Windows
Mail will not download new emails. I keep getting the following:

Account: 'pop3.slingshot.co.nz', Server: 'pop3.slingshot.co.nz', Protocol:
POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

I have already tried the following:
1 turned off avast VP
2 turned off firewall
3 deleted accounts and created new ones
4 spoken to Slingshot (my isp) who have said it is not their problem.

I am now at my wits end!
Any suggestions?

Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no
additional protection, it may be causing the problem, and even Symantec says
it's not necessary:

<QP>
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.

Uninstall your Avast AV and then re-install it without the email
integration(scanning) option. Just by turning it off does not disable the scanning

Answered in your thread "downloading email from pop3 suddenly broken".
Please limit posting to one thread per issue.

I just started receiving the same errors, using version for email for 7 years
and no problem. I uninstalled norton internet secruity 2010 thinking that
was the issue but that did not work either?

I am running windows vista and i can access my email through the web.

Please do not tag onto an old thread with "me too", start your own new
thread and describe your problem, please copy and paste the error messages
that WM gives when send or receive fails.

Do you get this exact same error?
Account: 'pop3.slingshot.co.nz', Server: 'pop3.slingshot.co.nz',
Protocol:
POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

I thought not. Please start your own new thread instead of replying to
this one and include the error message /you/ get. Thank you.

It is extremely unlikely that you got the exact same error message.
You should know by now what we need in order to help you.

Thanks Gary, for supporting what Bruce & I, (both MVP's), posted more than
5 hours ago, very fruitful information.
