Windows Mail - most folders disappear shortly after opening WinMail

After about 5 or 10 minutes in Windows Mail, the folders disappear and I have the message "Folders could not be displayed - Windows Mail could not open this folder. Possible causes are:  Low disk space.  Low memory". My desktop gadgets show CPU at 20% and memory at 50%.  I have quite a few filters on the Inbox.  Are these likely to be the cause ?The only way to get them back seems to be a reboot . . .  until the next time . . .

You didn't say which antivirus you had before. Security programs from
Symantec (Norton) and McAfee, often come as free trials on new computers,
can leave undesirable remnants when uninstalled. You must follow up such
uninstalls with a special crud removal tool:

Norton:

McAfee:
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507

Note: The custom here is to quote the post you are responding to.
That way we have continuity.

I have no antivirus software running.  Managed to run WMUtil (eventually).  Gone back in to WindowsMail . . . for about 5 minutes. . . contents of folders not visible again.

Sorry, Gary, only just seen your note about removing the Norton crud !                   Have cleaned all the Norton stuff off as per your instructions (and checked Windows Firewall running) and rebooted.  Gone back in to WindowsMail - contents of folders disappeared after about 3 or 4 minutes of use.

Go to Start | Search and type msconfig. Then disable all startup items and any non-Microsoft services and reboot and then see if you have the same issue.

If after trying Steve's suggestion it still doesn't work right, I suggest
upgrading to Windows Live Mail:

Incidentally, the web portal you are posting from (VistaForums) is corrupting your post.
I recommend using Windows Mail to access this newsgroup. Click here:
