Windows Mail ... group EMail

R

Rob

I've been trying for a few days to set up a group mail list but keep getting
an individual error message back for each address on the list (5.1.1 - Bad
destination email address 'invalid domain "": no dot found') I have made
individual contacts of each person thati wish to send to (as despite what the
help file says about clicking the toolbar and choosing "group" all I ever
have available to me is the individual contacts. I then put all of these
contacts in one named directory in the contacts folder but this folder is not
available to me when I go to send a new EMail. Sure could use some help on
this one.

Windows Mail won't see any folders you create.

When you have the Contacts folder open, you should have a button on the
toolbar for "New Contact", "New Contact Group", Import" and "Export". If
you don't see these buttons, the folder template got changed, as it
sometimes does...

Right-click on a blank area of the right pane, and select "Customize this
folder".
In the pull-down box, select "Contacts"
OK

Now you should be able to create a Group, and add contacts to it.

Thank you. You solved the problem of the group contact, however, I still get
the individual error message for each person on the list
(The following message to <GloriaWan> was undeliverable.
The reason for the problem:
5.1.1 - Bad destination email address 'invalid domain "": no dot found'
Now, if you could tell me why I'd sure be much obliged.

From the error message, it sounds like you need to check the email addresses
to make sure they are in the proper format...
(e-mail address removed)

you may have a comma instead of a period, etc.

R

Rob

Sure do thank you for all your time but I deleted the group, re-entered the
Emails (in the proper format) but continue to get the message. What
perplexes me here is the "invalid domain" part of the error message. If I
blocked spam at some point by blocking a domain could this possibly cause
mail to not go through?

Post the complete (verbatim) error message. (Feel free to munge any email
addresses; e.g., change (e-mail address removed) to (e-mail address removed))

Rob

For each person on the list I get a " The following message to <name> was
undeliverable.
The reason for the problem:
5.1.1 - Bad destination email address 'invalid domain "": no dot found'

The text message (or atleast the title of the text message) that I had sent
is in the "attach" field along with a .dat file. Any of this mean anything
to you?

That does not sound like a Windows Mail error message.
By any chance are you using Microsoft Outlook? If not, is the error
message coming directly from Windows Mail, or is it a 'bounce'
notice that appears in your Inbox after sending?

R

Rob

It is in fact Windows Mail that I'm using but you could very well be correct
that it is a "bounce" (not at all sure what the ramifications are of this) as
they do immedietly appear in my inbox after sending. In any case, I'm
looking for a solution.

Please post a complete copy of one of those bounce notices.
For privacy you can X out the person's username, for example,
changing (e-mail address removed) to (e-mail address removed).

R

Rob

If you wouldn't mind looking back to my 3rd post I have placed the complete
bounce notice there.

You mean the one that says "The following message to <GloriaWan>
was undeliverable"?

Obviously, <GloriaWan> is not a valid email address.

The errror suggests incorrectly formatted email addresses; e.g.,
name[AT]ispcom instead of name[AT]isp[DOT]com.

However, the real problem may be that you're sending one (1) message to an
excessive number of recipients via BCC (which is your ISP or mail account
provider's policy, not a Windows Mail policy).

Try sending to 50, 25 or fewer addresses & see if the behavior persists.
Also put your own email address in the TO field for good measure (some
providers require this).
