contacts (again)

sorry for what may be a duplicate heading, i just can't find the answer in
any of the other posts.
I'm new to vista and windows mail.
in outlook express, you could see a list of all your contacts on the left
hand side of the screen. if you wanted to send something, all you had to do
was click on their name and a blank e-mail page immediately popped up with
their address already typed in.

Is that in this new version?

I see the contacts button on the toolbar but it seems like a more
complicated approach than Outlook had to send a simple e-mail; with windows
mail, unless i'm missing something, you have to first click on contacts,
then find the person you want to send something to, highlight their name,
move the cursor over their email address.. click on that..... it's gotta be
easier than this.

Is there a way to view a list of your individual contacts on the windows
mail homescreen, like outlook had?

No, Windows Mail doesn't have that feature.
Microsoft recommends you start a new email as follows:
1. Click Create Mail.
2. Click on the 'To'.
3. Double-click the contact you want.
4. Click OK.

...... thanks for the response. wow, i really don't get why they would remove
something as user friendly and simple. so instead of just a single step to
get to where you want, their new and improved email client forces you to go
through 4....... ?

Apparently Microsoft did some focus group studies, and determined
that senders often address multiple recipients, which is cleaner to do
with the four steps I outlined, especially so if some of the addressees
go on the CC line rather than the To line.
