Steve

I continue to receive the subject error on an irregular basis.

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'mail.comcast.net',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Typically, it will resolve itself, but for the past week I have been unable
to receive e-mail - I can send e-mail, but not receive it. I have read the
threads concerning this error and applied a hotfix that allowed me to delete
some e-mails that I previously could not, but it did not fix this connection
issue.

Need some help, please. Thanks

This error is often caused by an AntiVirus application that scans email, do
you have such an animal installed.

Hal, I have McAfee VirusScan and it is enabled for all my e-mail stuff. What
do you suggest? Thanks

Uninstall it and then re-install it without the email integration (scanning). It is not enough just to disable the scanning of emails. Most of the time it will not take on fixing your issue

McAfee and Norton are the two biggest troublemakers for Windows Mail. You
need to uninstall McAfee, run their debris cleanup tool to get rid of the
crud the uninstaller leaves behind, then do a custom re-install and do NOT
install any email scanning modules/features/services. Email scanning is
entirely redundant, it does nothing but create problems where none exist,
and your system is still fully protected without it, provided you keep
McAfee's resident file system scanner up to date.

Please see the thred "Yahoo POP error"

I have found out that a lot of people are haveing the same problem,
including myself.
Iv looked and looked and havent found a solution.
I think maby Yahoo and Microsoft need to fix it between the two of them.
Mine used to work fine, I dont know if an automatic update is the problem or
what.
It just stoped working one day.

I dont beleave it is a problen with antivirous or firewall.
I tryed dissabling both (Im using Live One Care)
I also tryed booting in safe mode, nothing worked.
Also none of the settings in the antivirous or firewall had changed when
Windows mail stoped working.
I also tryed Live Mail and still get the same error.

Not believing something doesn't make it untrue. Many people have come here
with that error and in almost every case where an email scanner was
involved, removing the email scanning functionality cured the problem.
Disabling the scanning is seldom, if ever, sufficient, the scanning
components must be uninstalled.

At some point, I think I allowed it to send an update,,,shortly after that I
tried to add a new email to my new att.net account. Using the same infor
that was given to me by att.net to sit up the first email, in windowmail. As
soon as I tried the new address, both of my email address started not
working, giving me the "Mail error code 0x800CCC0F" and I noticed for the
first time, Mcafee put an incoming email into the "junkmail box". I agree
that it must be a Mcafee problem but I'm not sure I know enough to follow the
instructions below.

Is it pretty easy, even for a beginner? Or can I end up in a big mess?
Is this removal tool something I can get without receiving email...? Or
should I use another email address, where I know I can receive mail?

Disabling an antivirus is seldom sufficient to remove all its bad effects.

Windows Firewall has never bothered Windows Mail, and WF is not
involved in this current issue.

I am using Live One Care.
I haven't seen any email scanning settings in One Care.
I don't know how to disable it let alone remove it.
If I did would I loose my virus protection all together?
Also I loaded Explorer 8 Bata recently.
In one care there is a status line that says : Safety Filter in Internet
explorer 8 is On
I don't think this has anything to do with the problem but not knowing
doesn't make it untrue.

The IE8 beta causes several problems in Windows Mail, primarily
with locking the reading font to Times New Roman, and constantly
resetting the reading font size to Medium.

OneCare may be a common factor in some eight reports of a mysterious
error 0x800CCC0F we've seen here in the past two days.
As a test you should uninstall OneCare, just to find out if it is the
culprit. Presumably you can always reinstall it, if desired.

Oh Yeah by the way.
I am "Anthony" and also "aceamw" depending how I post ( web or WindowsMail )

So, did you try uninstalling OneCare? One other user posted here that it
fixed the problem for him.

I haven't tried taking it out.
If I remove it I wont have virus protection.
Besides I paid good money for OneCare and would like to use it.

I do have ATT DSL and that is how I get Yahoo mail.
ATT has semantics antivirus but I couldn't get it to run on my system even
with the help of both semantics or ATT.
I have a HP dv9000 series notebook with Vista 64

So, did you try uninstalling OneCare? One other user posted here that it
fixed the problem for him.

Running for a few minutes without an antivirus will not hurt you
as long as you don't open email attachments or surf to questionable
websites and click on their download links. Once you confirm that
OneCare is the culprit (as two other users reported here earlier today),
download and install one of the free antivirus programs that is more
compatible with Windows Mail:

AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
or
Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

However, with either of those, during the install phase you must select
'custom' install, and then deselect the email scanning module so it won't install.

Tell me, if it turned out that you were badly allergic to a medicine that your
doctor prescribed, would you continue to take it (to get your money's worth),
or would you ask your doctor for a different prescription?

I have been working with the same error message and can't seem to get
resolved. I've spent time with At.t and went they went through server, but
found nothing. Told me I need to go to my Windows Live One Care and they did
a thorough scan and no virus was detected. Still nothing works. I go onto
the web to get my email.

This problem is caused by a recent update to OneCare.
To fix it, in Windows Mail:
Click on Tools, Options, Security, Digital IDs. Under the Personal tab
you will see a digital ID. Highlight it and click the Remove button.
Restart Windows Mail and try it again.
