Windows mail - attachment problem

L

Line Design

An having problem when attaching file to e-mail. When choosing file to
attach to mail, dialog box opens and shows old versions of files, not
current version, although these are correctly shown when looking in
explorer.

For example, if I want to attach say a PDF file, this either doesn't show in
the dialog box (even though Explorer confirms it is there) or shows an older
version of the file.

I've tried some deleting files - explorer shows they're gone, but windows
mail attachment box says they are still there

The problem would appear to be with the attachment box listing, which is
refering to something that isn't there anymore, or is an older version.

I'm scrathing my head - apart from cursing Mr. Gates

Hope someone can help

Thanks in advance

Have you tried closing all other programs that use the file before
trying to attach the file? Windows Mail has problems attaching
files that are open in other programs.

Have already tried this thanks, but didn't work.

Anyone else with any ideas?

I've never come across this problem.
As a workaround, can you approach this from the other end?
Outside of Windows Mail, navigate to the file, right-click on it,
select Send To, Mail Recipient.

Thanks Gary for your idea, which has worked OK.

Have also looked more at problem. My hard drive is partitioned with Vista
o/s and programs on drive C. I'd put the data files onto the other part of
the HD - drive D. It seems that the mail attachment can't find them there,
and is looking somewhere else at previous versions of files - no idea where.
By creating a temporary folder on drive C and putting files for attachment
in that, the mail attachment dialog able to find correct version.
In all cases Windows explorer is able to find correct current versions of
files.

So seems problem is where hard drive is partitioned.

Good to hear that workaround will do for now.
I don't want to speculate on why the normal attachment route is not
working for you.
If you want, you can try upgrading to Windows Live Mail:
