Thanks for your nice response!

Have fun

Hello again Rainald,
So you too were bitten by the IE8-WinMail-bug which affects some (not
all) systems (all four of mine).

Not fun. Especially on 4 machines! :*-(
Strange. And this happened after installing IE8 and went away after
uninstalling it?

Exactly. Odd isn't it?
What do you mean by "my ISP's mail"? Is this a web-interface for
mail?

My Internet Service Provider's email program. Last September it was
BellSouth who then became ATT & then they paired with Yahoo. Haven't
cared for any of the 3 email programs. It takes more steps to access
than my WinMail so is less convenient. Plus, to me, it isn't
organized as well as WinMail.

I for one do not like WLM at all. Installed it for testing and
uninstalled it.
In case I can not get WinMail going in the final version of Win7 I
will look some alternative mail- and news-client (possibly
Thunderbird).

I did read some of your comments on the subject in some of the other
threads. Have a gut instinct I would end up doing the same as you.

Now, finally, I need to ask 1 more question. As I'm still struggling
to learn the terminology & what comes under what category, I'm
trying to figure out which group to post my next problem in. Can
you point me in the right direction please? About 20% of the time
when I go to shut the laptop down, it gets all the way down to just
the background picture & I get a pop up headed: explorer.exe saying
a program is preventing your computer from shutting down, then
tells me instruction at ( a list of #'s) referenced memory at (more
#'s). The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the
program. Gives me option to shut down now or cancel. I cancel,
close the pop up window & the icons on the left side of my screen
re-load, then after about a minute I can click shut down again and
it shuts down.

This is rather strange. Although being a notebook specialist, I have
no idea what might be going in and how the problem could be fixed.
I'm
worried this is going to be a BIG problem. Do you suggest General
Discussion posting or Performance & Maint.?

I have never been to one if these groups as I'm working with the
German group. But AFAICS you would not be wring in
"performance_maintenance".

Rainald

Once again I am in your debt. You have been most helpful. A pleasant &
enjoyable experience!
Thanks,
Ann.....tryingtolearn......and doing so :)
