windows logon/logoff sounds

I have a Dell Inspiron 5160 Laptop.
Generally when returning from standby a sound is played and another sound
played
when loging on from standby.

For some reason the windows logon and logoff qwav only plays when it wants
to. I have check and the soujnd is selected in the Windows(default) sound
settings.

I even changed the sound and saved the sound scheme as another name and all
workd for a few days then stopped again.
The question is, why doesn't the setting always work?

Are you certain that it is not working? I experienced the same
inconsistency, only to find that the volume control at times was turned down
too far for those sounds to be heard.
