Sounds Not Playing

For a few months now I'v noticed my logon and logoff sounds were not playing
when I attempted to logon after password protected sceensaver was invoked.
This is the only sound that will not work with associated system event. The
sound scheme is set for Windows default. The Windows Logon and Logoff
sound.wav files seem to be working fine. I can play the sound from the
program events on the sound tab of the Sounds and Audi Devices but it will
not work when the logon screen comes up after screensaver is activated.

My OS is XP Pro. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get the sound to
work again?

Thanks

If you get any answers to this query share them with me. I lost all sound and
get confusing mesdages from MS. Ms even tells me I am not running XP Pro and
won't allow me to download their stuff.

I tried everything including reinstalling sound driver. Nothing seemed to
work. One day I reinstalled sound driver and it worked. Your guess is as
good as mine.

Did a clean install of XP and evrything worked fine. Installed Norton NAV
and System works sound stopped working. Reinstalled Norton and sounds work.
This also happened with installing Adobe Acrobat 7 Professional. Rverything
is working fine now but for some reason installing software seems to create
this problem.

Interesting. Thanks for posting back the outcome though it's not clear what
the problem might be. Personally I would not use and I don't recommend
using NAV. It is a resource hog. There are better programs for this such
as Avast (free) or NOD32.
