Windows Lock Out?

Guest

I came home from work this morning to find that my PC had basically frozen up
on me. So after I restarted it, I only got the splash screen and nothing
else. I did a cold boot and still only the splash screen would load. I did
another restart and tried to load in Safe Mode. Still only the splash screen.
I tried one more time and left it alone for a while to see if made it was
only a matter of taking it's time to load. When I came back to check on it, I
had a McAfree warning up (I always get this message, it's nothing big and
doesn't have anything to do with the problem) so I figured that programs are
still running.

Any idea what could be the matter?

Please check Event Viewer for Warning / Error Reports in the System and
Application logs for the last boot and post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.

(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Is there another way for me to do this? I can't seem to get anything to work
on it. I've tried just about everything there is to get to something other
than just the splash screen to load and nothing is working. I was told the
last person to use it was trying to load a Yahoo! game before it froze on
them. So I guess it might have something to do with Java. But I have no way
to check the Error Report to see if it is or not.
