Windows Live Mail Installation

P

Paul Calcagno

I'm running Vista Home Premium with all the latest Windows Updates. I've
been reading how Windows Live Mail (WLM) is an advanced version of WM so I
finally decided to see if I could download and install it. Below is the
link that I used to download WLM. I actually got to that link by Googling
WLM and was taken to the site below.
My dilemma is that I think I wound up signing up for Windows Live Hotmail so
that I really can't tell if I've got WLM or not. Sorry to be so dense. I'm
not even sure if these are one in the same. Yikes!

Can anyone tell me if the `Mail' program I downloaded ((I had a choice to
download other components (like Photo Gallery, etc.)) but only chose WLM).
Do I now have is WLM or is it just a hotmail account? Sorry to be so
dense..........Paul C.

I don't know about the Hotmail part, but if you want to know whether you
have WLM or not :
Menu Bar at the top, Help > at the bottom of the drop-down box, it should
say About Microsoft Windows Live Mail , click that > the next box should say
Windows Live Mail, Version 2009 ( Build 14.0.8064.0206 ).

Hi t-4-2.

Thanks for your reply but you instructions (Menu Bar at the top, Help>at the
bottom of the drop down box..............) are not clear enough for a dud
like myself. I'm not sure what you're talking about. Menu bar at the top of
what? Are you talking talking about the menu bar in IE or WM or what? By the
way, I don't use IE anymore; switched to Firefox a few months ago - never
have ANY problems with Firefox.

Menu Bar at the top of the window where you check for incoming e-mails.
You just mentioned WM ( Windows Mail ). Have a feeling you don't have WLM.

T-4-2. I think you're right I don't have WLM because there's nothing at the
top of my menu bar in WM.

Nor do I understand why I don't have WLM. I know I put a check mark next to
Mail, one of the apps that I was about to download. Can you help? I've still
got the WLSETUP-WEB.exe file that I downloaded.

I suggest you run WLSETUP-WEB.exe again, making sure you have
selected the Mail option.

Well, you're not going to believe this but I took another look at the
installation directions, saw a clue that WLM should be in Start==>All
Programs===>WLM and sure enough when I clicked on WLM it started the program
up and proceeded to import my contacts from WM.

And WLM seems to work just fine. I sure don't know what happened and I still
don't have an icon to do a fresh opening of WLM but I can probably figure
out how to do that.

Thanks for all your help. It sure is reassuring to work with such a talented
bunch of folks.

" ...don't have an icon to do a fresh opening of WLM ...."
You can do 1 or both of the following :
1. Start button > All Programs > scroll to WLM, Right click, click " Pin to
Start Menu ".
You now have WLM on the Left side after you click Start button, without
going through All Programs. Click WLM and you're in.
2. Start button > All Programs > scroll to WLM, Right click, click Send TO >
click Desktop ( create shortcut ).
You now have a WLM shortcut icon on your desktop. Click it, and you are
in.
