Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta for United Kingdom / The Netherlands

Hi guys,

Currently I live in the UK and I am using a dutch version of Windows XP SP2
IEB3 WLM(as I am from The Netherlands). Does that affect in anyway the
access to the public download of WLMDB? When I now log in to
http://ideas.live.com, there is no option for me to download WLMDB. This
older version (8.0.0747) I am running now (that i didn't get off the
ideas.live.com website; oops) , I can login to! But when i find a newer
version / the latest release of WLMDB I can not!?!?!

If the Beta release is country dependent, do you have any idea, when the
beta will be released for Europe / The Netherlands/ United Kingdom?

Many thanks,

Bart

Hi Stephen, Hi Bart,

It is true that the Beta markets are currently very constrained and that when you sign into ideas.live.com, it keys off of information based on the country setting on the Windows Live ID (WLID) which you used to sign in. You can imagine that this causes problems for Microsoft employees (generally a very international lot, but e.g. in Australia for instance, or the UK) who can't see the US-only beta due to their country code setting. The workaround: create an WLID you set to United States, and use it only when you suspect that filtering like that is going on.

And of course, this works the other way as well. I have a UK WLID and French WLID and German WLID, to name a few just to see the tabs or the free winks that are available in those markets which aren't available to US users.

Thanks!

Very true, and thanks for adding this John. Those who do change the Passport
locale or create a new ID with a different locale for beta purposes do need to
recognize that there could be issues with the product they download due to
language localization of Windows itself, not to mention possible support issues.
