Are you trying to set up Windows Mail, or Windows Live Mail?
Who provides your email account?

The mailbox in the tool bar is MSN Mail - MSN Explorer. I thought I had
previously set up Windows Live and got to it with an icon on my desktop, but
this morning when I clicked on the icon got the message about making Windows
Live as the principal e-mail. I hope this answers your question

No, I'm confused.
I thought MSN Explorer was a version of Internet Explorer that could access
a MSN/Hotmail webmail account. And I didn't think it works on Vista.

This group is for Windows Mail, which is Vista's replacement for Outlook
Express.

The term "Windows Live" is ambiguous, since there are a whole host of
Windows Live products.

If you installed Windows Live Mail, then it should be able to access your
MSN/Hotmail/Live email account. But probably not thru MSN Explorer, as it's
a standalone program.

Now I'm really confused! My tool bar's mail is MSN Explorer. What the new
one is Windows Mail. I don't know what it replaced. I would like to use the
new one (Windows Mail) , but I don't know how to get the e-mail address to
use it. It rejects my old one. My question is, how do I get a new e-mail
address.

If you have a msn.com, hotmail.com, or live.com email address, it
won't work in Windows Mail. To use one of those email addresses, you
have to download and install Windows Live Mail:

Thank you. I installed Windows Live Mail without any problems, and I
don't have to change my e-mail address. I would like it to be the default
e-mail.

Installing Windows Live Mail should make it the default automatically.
Do you have any reason to believe it is not the default email program?
