Windows keeps restarting!

Saturday morning I turned on my laptop as usual, but very shortly after
signing me in (about 20 seconds) Windows restarted without giving any reason.
There is no blue screen, no error message, and no warning. It continuously
restarts (i.e. if I were to turn it on and not interfere with it, it would
just keep restarting over and over, non-stop).

I started Windows in Fail-Safe mode (as well as all the other modes) to try
to figure out the problem. I tried doing a sytem restore to a prior date, I
tried deactivating restart of the computer after an error, I did a full
system scan, I ran start-up in msconfig and didn't find anything to indicate
why it keeps restarting. Nothing has worked. I've since created a second user
account, which works fine. But what went wrong with my other account, and how
can I fix it?

At first I considered the possibility it could be a virus. I doubted this
because my computer is well-protected, and a virus would affect every account
on the computer. It is not a result of over-heating either. What caused this?
I need to correct it so I can go back to using the other account.

How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile

Have you looked at the Warning and Error Reports in the System and
Application logs in Event Viewer?

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in
the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in
a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.

(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Individual profile corruption isn't an uncommon occurrence with XP.
Using your other account can you access your original files in the
Documents & Settings\'LoginName' ?

What may be an option is to create a 3rd Account with Admin
privileges and login to it and then copy the "Original" profile to the
2nd profile.

Microsoft has a "How To" here:

Abrupt reboots are never a good sign. I would download and use
SpeedFan 4.32 to monitor the temps in the notebook.

Note: If it's a Dell, then running Hot isn't unusual - for Dell Notebooks
there is a special monitoring/Fan control program:

For Dell notebooks ( if using P4 processors ) I generally recommend
the user purchase a notebook Chiller pad.
