I really need some help figuring this one out. I have XP
Pro installed on my desktop with 128 M of RAM installed.
I recently installed a printer, but everytime I go to
print the beginning of the document starts to print and
then the computer freezes. I get vertical bars running
across the screen, and the colors change every time it
happens. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, went
to the manufacturers home page and looked for updated
drivers but I'm still having the problem. Last night I
was on the internet and the screen just went black. Each
time it freezes I have to manually turn it off with the
power button because the computer is unresponsive. I was
planning on upgrading the memory, but I'm not sure that'll
help this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

You need more memory -256 mb is the minimum but that may not be the
cause of your problem.

Have you checked the manufacturers web site for the latest printer
drivers?

Are there any Error Reports in Event Viewer? If yes please post copies.

Make an exact note of the precise text of any error message. Minor
discrepancies can
make it harder to search for information about the error message.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event
ID, Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click
for further information and you can copy using copy and paste.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make
sure this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

I've downloaded the driver from the manufacturer, but I
still have the same problem. The issue of just going
black that happened yesterday was while I was on the
internet, not while I was printing. I'm not in front of
my computer now, and I didn't get a chance to check Event
Viewer last night, but I'll take a look tonight and post
anything I can find. I didn't think the memory had much
to do with it, unless for some reason the actuall stick is
bad. I've been running my other computer with 128 for
over a year with no problems.

Here's what the log file said. No errors, just
Information logs.
Event Type: Information
Event Source: ESENT
Event Category: General
Event ID: 103
Date: 9/22/2004
Time: 9:22:43 PM
