windows is deleting too many messages

I am having a problem with my email. When I am in my inbox and I click to
delete a message it will delete that message along with one or two that
follow. It is doing this about 90% of the time. I am not doing anything
differently than I have in the past and my husband is having the same issue.
Any ideas?
