Windows Installer Service

R

Rey Garcia

After resetting computer to previous config sys state,
cannot access MS Office applications. Get message; "MS
(excel, word, etc.,) has not been installed for the
current user. Please run setup to install". Any attempt
to install MS office or other programs results in
following; "The windows installer service would not be
accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in
safe mode or if windows installer is not correctly
installed". Any help will be appreciated.

Rey,

See if the following article helps.

315353 - "The Windows Installer Service Could Not Be Accessed" Error Message When You Install Microsoft Plus! for
Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];315353

The Resolution steps in this article can be used with Windows 2000 also, except Step 7 and in Step 6 you'll need to run
Regedt32 instead of Regedit.
