Windows Installer Problems!

Well I'v tried posting this problem a number of ways on different forums
and not got any where near a solution. So here goes with a fresh approach.

I keep getting the following message whenever I try to alter, remove or
update a software installation:-

"The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that
the source exists and that you can access it."

The problem at first seemed to be just MS Office 2003. This message
occurred in the above situations and whenever I attempt a "Detect and
Repair". BUT the problem cannot be with Office as such because I have
the same problem with various Serif and Corel products. The problem
must lie with the Windows Installer sub-system. Even when I try
uninstalling and re-installing the problem remains. Note: the only way I
can uninstall is by using the Windows Install cleanup utility first
because of the above error message. I have updated the installer
software form Microsoft and this has made no difference. I suspect that
the registry may be suspect but where do I start?

Can someone please help as this has gone on for months now with no solution.

Many Thanks

Hi glad I'm not alone on this problem but these forums aren't as good as
they used to be. You used to get answers for a start and someone would
stick with until it was resolved. Doesn't happen now ... I've been
posting for help on this for months.

Do you have a warranty on your computer. If you do, call your computer
manufactor and they should be able to help you. Mine is a Dell, and my
warranty ran out, so they refuse to help me unless i buy another warranty;
which is a bunch of crap. I also was reading that if your memory is below
50% on your computer the Windows Installer won't work..

Warranties are useless in situations like this. It's a software problem
and beyond the scope of average support staff for hardware suppliers.
What we need is Microsoft Techies to actually take an interest in our
problem.
