Windows Installer Problems

I have Windows 2000 Pro with Service Pack 1. The Windows
Installer dialog box keeps opening when I open a program
and says it is Preparing to install, even though the
programs have already been installed. The box then goes
away, but nothing happens. I have tried to update to a
later service pack, but unable to. Does anyuojne know what
is going on? I am not an expert, so don't go fancy on me.

Yep, you have to download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility.
Run it and in the list of programs it provides, choose the program that is
trying to install and let it uninstall. Then reinstall it and you should
not have the problem anymore.
