Windows Installer Problem

I have encountered a problem with Windows installer, which seems not to be
working properly. This does not allow me to install the updated version
KB893803 v2. In fact, whenever i run the file downloaded from microsoft
(WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe) I get the message Extraction failed:
Can't find the specific file.

How can i correct the windows installer?

The problem persists, although I have retried downloading as suggested. The
thing is that I can't install anything anymore. I have also tried numerous
workarounds I have found in the newsgroups.

Any help would be appreciated.
