How to install the Windows Installer Engine on an existing XPE ima

Hi,

I'm trying to install the windows installer engine on an XPE image but I
don't have access to the deployment stuff to regenerate the image.

Is this possible?

Installing WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe only deploys the msi.dll and
does not include msiexec.exe.

Is there a preferred installation routine for deploying this? The only way I
found was copying msiexec.exe from another XP machine onto the System32
folder.

Is this allowed/acceptable?

Hello again,

I'm new here, and I have limited knowledge of XPE deployments.

Could someone please confirm if this is a known bug or if this is normal
behaviour if the Windows Installer Engine is not installed on the base image.

What would be the reason for not installing msiexec.exe? Is this a security
restriction or just a bug?
