"Windows installer" pop-up window

When I start my computer and during the start process a window opens
titled "WINDOWS INSTALLER".

It has a lot of information related to Windows installer V3.01.4000.1823.

There is no option to do anything except click an "OK" button ehich then
causes it to close.

I can not find this listed in msconfig's startup and wonder what it
is, why it keeps popping up at startup and how do I prevent it from
popping up or indeed how to get rid of it. Is it perhaps something
that has loaded as a Windows update?

I use Win XP home edition with all current updates.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Bob,

Perhaps the Windows Installer is trying to repair/reinstall a product. You need to determine the name of the application which's being reinstall/repaired. If the application name can't be determined, check the event logs using the following steps:

Click Start, Run and type eventvwr.msc
Select the "Application" log
Look for the recent entries with the source column containing "MsiInstaller"
Double-click the entry for more details.
It may show the product name for which the installation/repair took place

In some cases, the application name may not be available, but the ProductCode will be available. You can then map the ProductCode with the actual product name using the steps listed in this article:
