Windows Installer ..missing file?? problems.. oh boy

I have a Gateway Media Center Edition PC purchased 8/03.. running Win XP ..
768 RAM.. 160 GB hard drive..

had a crash last Thursday in Windows that gave very limited info.. You've
had a serious Windows crash and the lights went out on the PC... that
Gateway tech( warranty) got me thru so that Windows reboots properly...it
would hang up and a black/white style DOS type window would appear giving me
5 choices on how to continue the reboot.. no matter which one I chose.. n/g..
System Restore would not work also.. so had to call Gateway as last resort...

there is NO spyware or Virus on the machine... checked and rechecked for
same.. all clean..all Live updtaes up to date.. plus ISP has Virus blocking
software

Gateway Tech had me remove thru Add/remove my Canon ZoomBrowser software
since I had installed it about three days before with my third new Canon
digital camera using same ZoomBrowser software over the past three
years....turns out that wasn't the problem.. now that Windows seems to be
repaired.. I got to use System Restore finally...along with some help from
Gateway..

Gateway techs had me run chkdisk and other long series of systems and disk
checks.. all were good.. no errors present..

right now it will NOT re-install the Canon software from their disk...
I've been on the phone three times with Gateway a total of 5 hours... and
with Canon 2 hours.. only problem is the error message I get now trying to
reinstall the Canon software.. Windows Installer Error message( no number
given in message) says that file ZB.msi and its path cannot be found..after
it advised to place CD in drive.. I determined this is a Windows Installer
problem and file... it almost sounds as though the Add/Remove got rid of that
file along with the Canon software.. for some reason it is showing ALL the
Canon software is installed with older versions.. but yet they aren't in the
system..

is there any way I can correct/repair this without having to do a total
restore /
re-format of my entire system..and re-installing everything.. I have
everything.. data.. pics etc backup up on DVD disks.. seems there just has
to be a simpler way to get that Windows Installer package back in there.. it
is the ONLY software/program that will not install .. I know the
ZoomBrowser software can be installed because it was previously and worked
fine.. until the crash for no apparent reason while in my browser online...

I can d/l pics from any/all my digital cameras thru Paint Shop Pro...PSP
Photo Album .. Adobe Photo Elements MS PIP.. and other programs.. just
would like to get back to doing it thru Canon ZoomBrowser and its file
setup/configuration..

any help/info greatly appreciated..

GTS...THANK YOU..THANK YOU..THANK YOU.. a thousand times over... absolutely
what I wanted .. Installed the Cleanup Utility.. removed the remnants of the
old ZoomBrowswer and got my new updated Canon Zoom Browser software
re-installed... back to d/l pics with the canaon cameras in my most
frequently used utility... you did in 5 minutes what Gateway and Canon
couldn't figure out in all the time they tried to :) :) :)
