Canon's ZoomBrowser fails to see enough disk space

H. S.

Hello,

I am trying to install the newer version of Zoombrowser (5.6) from
Canon's web site. I have downloaded the file, ZB560aUPD_EN.exe, but when
I double click on it, I get a message that "There is not enough space on
drive C:\ to extract this package. Please free up 36.87 MB and click
Retry." However, I have around 4 GB free space in C:\.

I have sent a message to Canon via their electronic online form but
haven't heard from them yet.

Any suggestions what could be going wrong or how to get around this problem?

thanks,
->HS

check drive for errors drive properties >tools

then try the setup again ...free space may be reported incorrectly

I defragmented the disk only a few weeks ago and I know for sure that
around 4GB is free.

But initiated an error check scan and the report shows that the disk has
no bad sectors and it appears to be working properly. So, what next?

Aside from cleaning out temp directories (run Disk Cleanup), perhaps you
have too many files in your root directory (C:\). See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/114842/en-us This was a problem in
WinNT (and also DOS) and I don't know if it applies to XP. See,
however, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315688/en-us

Well, I am not sure if I should say the problem is solved; after the
error check (chkdsk), I updated Windows XP and rebooted. I tried
installing the software again and this time it worked! The disk was
still showing 4GB free. I have absolutely no idea why it worked now.
