Windows Icons won't display properly

Suddenly, many of my Windows icons do not appear. They display an unknown
file symbol. The programs work when clicked, but the icons won't display.

I have right clicked and tried to reset the icons, but they don't hold the
setting. Even the My Computer and My Documents icons are blank.

Can you help? Any recommendations?

See if repairing the icons using Tweak UI helps.
