Dear All,
Please help; I have two machines both running Windows XP Home,
one connects directly to the internet via a USB ADSL modem, the other
connects to the internet via a crossed wire network cable. The internet
connection aspect of my network works fine. However, My computer (the host,
with the internet connection via USB ADSL modem) can't see itself or
anything else, the second computer which connects to the internet through
mine can only see itself; not mine. This means that file and printer sharing
isn't gonna happen! also when I try and look at workgroup computers on my
computer, it says I don't have permission (generic xp error I presume). I
have looked at the ip addresses but this confused me! I ran ip config and
determined that my node type is "unknown" and the other computer is "mixed".
I have enabled NetBIOS over wins, and don't have the registry entries
mentioned in previous posts.

I'm completely lost and feel very confused. If any body could shed any light
to my situation I would be very very grateful. If you need to know anymore
information just reply to this post. I sit in eager anticipitation.

Regards
Craig

Craig, make sure that you do not have any firewalls up. Make sure ICF is disabled on the LAN connections on both PCs. Also check any antivirus software that is running, and disable the firewalls. Try this and post the result. Cheers, Flash.
